Top 5 PS2 RPGs (That I Own)

Ok, so... uhh, I left out a few RPGs that I have and for good reasons, reasons I would rather not explain, games I left out would include... Kingdom Hearts 1, the original .hack series, every final fantasy game, and Star Ocean. So yeah... let's get this started.

5. Disgaea 2

Well, what to say about Disgaea 2 without first mentioning the original, which will also be on the list... In my opinion I think Disgaea 2 was still a good game but simply not as good as the original, not drastically I mean I certainly don't HATE Disgaea 2, I mean if I did then why would it be on this list? Anyway, one reason I sort of saw it as a game not as good as the original (I just used the word as like 3 times in that sentence didn't I?) is because I was so ready to see the continued adventures of Laharl and friends and to see what happens after the ending and to see which ending was the one that counts and all that good stuff to just start off a new adventure with all new characters and not get my answers as to what happens after the "real" ending until Prinny came out, which by the way was after Disgaea 3. But I got over that since the characters are likable and the story is interesting. However, my main complaint is the grinding is a little... awkword... lemmie evaluate, you see you can sort of go through the first few levels without having to grind, then you reach a point that after each level (or board or whatever) you need to grind a bit, but the previous level doesn't give you enough XP and the Item worlds are either too hard or too easy, and trust me when it gets really hard to grind at the BEGINING of the game it get's really frustrating.

4. Disgaea

Ok so here it is, the original, I told you it was on the list and it's right under Disgaea 2 on the list. Obviously, like I said before I like the original more, but it always brings that thought in my head... "so if their like 1,000 and something years old and they look like kids... is 1,000 years like 10 for them or like how do they age?" but whatever let's not over analyze things like that. Anyway, I think the characters in this game are likable, the story may be kinda... well cliche in ways but it's like a good cliche, kinda like Gurren Lagann, it doesn't take itself too seriously so you don't feel like you need to look away from the screen every cutscene and jump up in fear if someone comes in and then pretend like you weren't playing it because your embarassed because it feels like watching an old Pokemon movie, it feels kinda like the writer knows that it's like that and constantly makes fun of his own writing, which is in a way, kinda fun to watch. Also, in my opinion the voice acting was pretty damn good in this game and was just as good (if not better) than the Japanese voice acting, even though everyone seems to think that the English voice actors are terrible. Also I don't think I mentioned the gameplay have I? Well it's kinda like a game of chess mixed with a turn based strategy game, which maybe doesn't sound awesome but trust me it is, it's kind of a way to put a spin on turn based combat to make it less like just clicking and more strategic, and the grinding issue in Disgaea 2 doesn't exist here, it seems like when you need to do some grinding you just go to an item world and you can find one that isn't too hard and isn't too easy.

3. Persona 3

I know what your all thinking, you want to kill me for this not being number 1, and I am sure it won't help at all when you see what number 2 is... but honestly it took me like 20 minutes of just thinking so that I could place this game and the number 2 game in order of preference. Ok so enough apolgizing, let me get to how awesome this game is. Well, for starters the anime cutscenes are probably among my favorite video game cutscenes ever, and the combat isn't just turn based, it has the whole "weaknesses" element of gameplay which sort of makes you think and plan out your moves instead of just click 10 times, and the "dungeons" are fun to adventure around in, and not to mention the enemy encounters aren't just random, you see the enemies in the dungeon and you can choose to either just run like hell and hope it doesn't catch up with you, or maybe you could attack it first and get the upper hand, or it could get the upper hand by attacking you first, and so that your grinding doesn't get too boring they have little challenges called Elizabeth Requests so while you, say look for 3 of some item dropped only by certain enemies, while you look for said enemy for the reward you can kill everything in sight, so with a goal set it kind of makes the expirience less boring. Also, the story is really interesting and the "sim" aspects of the game make it really fun as well, but sadly in the (for now) Japan only remake of Persona 3 on the psp took out all of the sim aspects, which I hope was just for space and not on purpose.

2. .Hack//G.U.

Ok, like I said I bet if I had more than 1 reader I would get alot of angry comments of people saying that they want to kill me for making this number 2 and making Persona 3 number 3... but honestly if I could just have 2 number 2's then I would but I can't I had to put them in order of preference and honestly I like .Hack//G.U. a little bit more, I'm not sure if it's because I like the combat system more, or because I played G.U. recently and it's been a while since I played Persona 3, or because I like the "your playing a game about a kid playing an online game but the game your really playing isn't online like the one he is..." yeah sounds confusing but you get it once you play, and even if turn based combat does have a twist on it to make it less boring I still prefer real time combat in RPGs like in G.U. and I also like it how practically everytime you need to majorly grind you get a little e-mail from someone that says something like "Hey I found a new area that will be perfect for grinding at our specific level" and that's just awesome. I seriously love this game and when I look at all of the hours I spent on Volume 1, I realize that I'm probably not even half way done with it, and I have 2 other volumes to go.

1. Kingdom Hearts 2

Yeah, I said I didn't count the original Kingdom Hearts so... obviously that meant I had Kingdom Hearts 2 on this list, and being the amazingly awesome game it is I just had to put it on this list. Also, I am always proud to say this with a smile on my face, I pre-ordered this game 2 years before it came out and got the very last copy, and this was at Gamecrazy where it isn't "first come, first serve" or at least it wasn't like that for major releases so I was actually on a list and just so happened that my number was the exact same number of copies they got the day it came out. Also, it was probably the most anticipated game of not only that year but probably my whole life, then again there was Brawl... but whatever I don't even need to explain the game mechanics, or how awesome the story is, or how great the story is, because honestly I can't explain all of it without going on for like 3 paragraphs and it would just be a waste of everyones time because I am pretty damn sure that like 98% of people who own or have ever owned or know anyone who has a ps2 have played this game, so you all know how fun it is hitting enemies with a giant key in Disney themed worlds allied with Final Fantasy characters.

Gaming Otaku Recommends

Ok wow I actually finished my project earlier than I thought so I actually can post today, now if only people actually read my blog =(. Anyway here's a list of a few things that are so awesome that I just have to recommend for anime/video game fans like me.

Anime DVDs:

- Yu Yu Hakusho Season Box Sets
Ok I was at Bestbuy a few days ago looking for the next Naruto Uncut season Box set since had just came out but Bestbuy sucks at keeping inventory as it was nowhere in sight, so I looked around for something else that would entertain me for just as long as 10 hours and I stumbled upon the super cheap ($25 at Bestbuy $20 on Rightstuf) Yu Yu Hakusho season 1 box set, remembering the awesomeness of Toonami when I was a kid so I thought "hmmm... for the money this might not be half bad." And just wow... I instantly fell in love with the series all over again and since I only remember bits and pieces of it then I actually for the most part, don't know what is going to happen next. Oh yeah and this is $25 dollars for 1/4 of the whole series, that's ridiculously cheap, and like I said before if you buy them on Rightstuf it's $20, but since I am really impatient and want to keep watching and watching I buy them at a store instead of online.

- Naruto Season Box Sets
Well these might not be a better deal than the Yu Yu Hakusho box sets but still those first 25 episodes of Naruto uncut were well worth the $35 I paid for them, again that's Bestbuy price, oh and Bestbuy price of season 2 (or like season 1 part 2 section 1 and a half... you'll get that joke in a minute...) is only $27. But they are oddly titled, they don't just call it Season 1 and Season 2 (like what it really is supposed to be called) no they have some complicated name for it like Season one part 1 or something like that. If you already have the Uncut Box Sets then there is no reason to switch to the season ones, it's not like the special features are that good or anything, but if you don't have the Uncut Box Sets then the season Box Sets are a better deal.

Video Games:

- Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution 3
Oh man if you want the best Shippuden Clash of Ninja game (GNT4 fans, notice how I didn't insult your favorite CoN game by saying SHIPPUDEN) then defiantly go with Revolution 3. It's basically EX3 with more characters, more specials, more balanced gameplay, online mode, and best of all for people who don't speak Japanese, it's in English. The Online mode is surprisingly really good, with little to no lag on most battles, and even if there is any, it doesn't make the game unplayable. The stage transitions can be awesome or just annoying but I think they are only annoying when your playing online, oh and same thing with obstacles except those annoy me all the time, but don't count those as actual negatives of the game since you can take them out by just going into the options menu. I'm sure I have much more to say about the game but for right now if you want to hear it's awesomeness then my video review should be here on an earlier post.

- Persona 3 FES
"What's this doing here?" you ask, oh you thought this list was simply newer things only? No way, I mean I could put Starfox 64 on this list if I wanted to. Anyway On these lists I will try to put a game on here that will suck away your time like a vacuum the size of a building. This of course fits this category since I have at least 10 hours of gameplay on it and I'm only on like the second or third boss. if you don't know about Persona or any other Shin Megami Tensei games then it's basically an RPG with Anime style cutscenes, way less grinding than Disgaea, sim aspects (which for the most part are taken out of the new psp version), and hours of gameplay. Oh and if your wondering what FES stands for I forgot... but it's basically the expanded edition with like a second story mode after you beat the first story mode. For RPG fans this is a must have, for Shin Megami Tensei fans, you should already have this game.

Well there you go reader (notice how that wasn't plural... *sigh*) I actually posted today. And remember I post every other day and please tell your friends about my blog.

Top 5 Games That Push the Limit of the Disk/Cartridge

Well I felt like my blog has been lacking lists lately and mainly lists about video games, with pictures, so instead of doing what I was going to today (make a post about how awesome Dr. Tran is) I will be doing a list. Oh and by "Push the Limit" I mean the kinda game that obviously takes up sooooo much space on the disk/cartridge you can barely believe that it fits.

5. Little Big Planet

Ok the reason this is number five is because, well yes you can do just about anything but you can have up to 50 gigs on a ps3 blu-ray so you have alot of room for creativity and DLC. But like I said you can pretty much do anything and when you see something that you thought could simply not be done, you will see people who surpassed even that. I think EVERY PS3 owner should have this game.

4. Okami

Well I bought Okami on my Wii because I heard it was really good and I spent hours on it and realized it was much better than good, it was absolutly amazing. Oh and it's made by Clover Studios, the creators of God Hand and Viewtiful Joe. When I thought the game was over after fighting a "final boss" I am aloud into the other half of the freaking continent, yeah and I am pretty sure that after you beat the next almost last boss your going to have alot more to do but I am not that far yet.

3. Naruto Accel 3

Well this game isn't out yet but come on, have you seen the graphics? On the psp? Oh and not to mention the RPG story mode and all of those characters, as well as 4 player mode, and versus mode, and an original (side) story (yes it's only optional don't freak out), on the PSP! I honastly cannot wait for this game to come out and I know it will be great (especially with my Adhoc Party PS3 app).

2. Persona 3 FES

Ok there is a reason I specificly put FES, because the normal version of Persona 3 had so much content that it made you feel like the disk couldn't handle even a textbox more, and yet they came out with FES that added to and tweaked the game so much that now you think they could not fit more. Well let's start off with me saying that I have not finished Persona 3 yet but with 20 hours of gameplay and I only just beat the second boss, I think I can tell it's a pretty damn long game, either that or I have been playing Disgaea too much and most of those hours were just extreme grinding. Oh and if I didn't mention before FES added a whole new FULL STORY MODE so it is really a great buy, especially since I got a brand new copy of FES for $20.

1. Kingdom Hearts 358/2

Ok you totally saw this coming if you saw the first cutscene, if you have ever played a DS game in your life then you should notice that not even Kingdom Hearts 2 cutscenes looked that good, but that's not for every cutscene so don't get too excited. Well look at the DS and think of games like Ninja Destiny 2 or if you want to call it a game, Ping Pals, and then play 358/2 days and you will realize that it is just AMAZING for a DS game. This game is so good that all of my friends who get it become addicted and just cannot stop playing, I however have alot of stuff to do along with alot of other games to play (One Piece Unlimited Cruise 1 finally came in the mail yesterday).

Well, remember I post every other day so keep checking for updates, well now back to Unlimited Cruise!

5 ps2 games I would REALLY recommend

Ahhh the ps2, in my opinion it's the best game system ever and these are 5 games I recomend you get if you don't already have a ps2 (ha yeah right) or if you need some more games to play on your ps2, this includes game series as well.

5. Katamari (series)

Ok so I only own Katamari Damacy but I've played Me and My Katamari but plan on getting Katamari Forever. Oh well, anyway the two Katamari games on the ps2 are Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari, let me tell you this before you go out and buy it... this game is WEIRD, especially because of what the objective of the game is... Ok so basically you roll this big ball around (stop laughing) and your goal is to roll things into this ball to make it bigger (I said STOP laughing) and you have to get it to a certain size (screw it just keep laughing) and then you make it into a star... or in the case of the last level you make it into the moon. Anyway despite how weird it sounds (and how high the intro makes you feel) it is REALLY fun. Luckily for you, this game is easy to find for at least $10-$15.

4. Klonoa 2: Luneatea's Veil

Ok so I would recomend any Klonoa game because I am just such a huge klonoa fan, this game is platforming gold. this game is so fun but about the story mode... either you hate it or you love it, in my opinion I do like it alot but some people just hate it. Anyway, the game is really fun but the difficulty curve seems to play it cool for a while and then a few levels late it goes up just a LITTLE bit, then keeps doing that til that stupid maze level that was just too hard when I first played it years ago that I needed to get a Gamefaqs guide. Believe it or not this game should be really easy to find for a low price.

3. Persona 3

Yeah I know, "Why did you only say Persona 3 and not Persona 4?", well that's because Persona 3 is the only game in the Persona series that I have played, and infact I didn't even mean to buy it, it was on sale and I had just money to buy it along with Disgaea 2 and WOW it was awesome, ok awesome is an understatement, it was EXTREMELY AWESOME it has got to be one of my favorite RPGs of all time. The story is definatly one of the things that keeps you playing and it's kind of like a mix of an rpg and a sims game because of Social Links. Social Links are basically bonding with different friends by doing things like joining a sports team or staying in your room on a sunday afternoon to talk with someone on an online MMORPG. Social Links are kind of complicated to explain so it would be best if you just experience this game first hand.

2. Ape Escape (the whole series)

Ok I am going to be honast, since this isn't really a "top 5" list and these games are just kind of in random order, then this is number 2, if it were a top 5 list I would have to find a way to put it on a better number than number 1 because I love this series so much, even the spin-offs like Pumped and Primed are awesome (despite what most game review sites say I love pumped and primed), just everything about the series is great, especially the graphics, I mean just look at the cell shaded cutscenes in Pumped and Primed or just any part of the game of Million Monkeys and tell me straight in the eye that you have seen better looking graphics on a PS2. Well anyway, this game series is so much fun, but there is a downside, even though it is well known for being the very first game to use a ps1 Dual Shock controller, apperantly Sony must not think it's very popular because we haven't gotten an Ape Escape game since Ape Escape 3, but that is definatly not going to stop me from playing games like Million Monkeys or Ape Escape Acedemy 2, and it seems that much like the Blade Battlers series Sony has forgotten about Ape Escape, especially because the only new Ape Escape game in japan for quite some time was a game that was supposedly an "American exclusive", but trust me Sony, you may have forgotten Ape Escape, but your fan's have not...

1. Metal Gear Solid (series)

Ok so Metal Gear Solid 1 is on the ps1 and Metal Gear Solid 4 is on the ps3 but Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are on the ps2 so this series is on the list. Well Metal Gear solid 2 is awesome but if your a really big fan of snake then this one might not be for you especially because in Metal Gear Solid 2 Raiden is kind of... uhhh... how do I put this... well you all know the word I'm going so say... he is nothing like Metal Gear Solid 4 Raiden (awesome Cyborg Ninja Raiden) and like many Metal Gear fan's say, he stole snake's limelight, but that's not to say the game isn't still awesome because it is, oh and there's a skating mini-game in the substance version that's just awesome. Ok... Metal Gear Solid 3... uhhh, well it's basically the much needed backstory of Metal Gear Solid that tells the story of Snake's dad "Naked Snake" aka "Big Boss" and it's pretty good, you even have to take medical care of yourself and eat stuff you find in the wilderness (surprisingly some snakes taste pretty good...) oh and by "medical care" I mean things like burning leeches off your body with Cigar's and picking bullets off your body with your knife, yeah I know it sounds effing painful. All of the games in the Metal Gear Solid Series are great and I recomend you try them all out.

Well that was my list of ps2 games I really recomend, remember I update every other day so keep checking for updates.
Even though Metal Gear Solid 1
